Teatro Colón by Quinn

Friday, 6/13: Today I started my day with a bowl of cereal before leaving the house for school. My student’s house is very close to El Colegio Del Salvador, only about two city blocks. The trip only takes about eight minutes by foot and is far different from my usual commute to BCHigh. Today we toured the Colón Theatre, which is one of the best theaters in the world in terms of acoustics. The theatre was very beautiful, and the tour took us to see much of the building. One thing that stood out to us was how the railing for the stairs was made out of marble, and in the marble were tiny fossils of various shells. After the tour concluded, we headed back to school. On the way, we stopped at a small coffee shop, and we bought some treats. By the time we arrived at school, it was time for lunch. Today most of us bought the veal Milanesa, which was incredible. After lunch, we went to our host brothers’ theology and philosophy class. In the class, we split up into groups of three—two Argentinian students and one exchange student. In these groups, we had to discuss overarching themes of ethics and philosophy and then present them in front of the class in our choice of language. For many of us, it was very confusing because most of us haven’t taken ethics yet as a class. In the end, many of us were able to connect the material from our BCHigh religion classes to the topics we were discussing. After the class ended, we had about 2–3 hours of free time, which we were going to spend playing soccer until it started to rain. After school, a bunch of us went over to Lucas’s house to hang out. On the way, we picked up some pastries to eat later. It was a lot of fun at Lucas’s house; we played some good music from his speakers and enjoyed croissants and lemon tarts. After that, most of us went home to go to bed, tired after a long week of fun activities and speaking in only Spanish.
